Appalachia is our home. These mountains, these people, this culture… Appalachia has shaped us into the people we are today. The organizations that support the people and culture of this region, growing and driving our economy deserve to be recognized for their efforts and be supported too. At Turnquist House, we’ve decided to give back to those that have given so much to us through the Appalachian Impact Award.
What is the Appalachian Impact Award?
The Appalachian Impact Award is given to an organization that has had a profound impact on the people and place of Appalachia. Whether through economic development, service, or community enrichment, the organizations selected have worked tirelessly to bring about positive change. These organizations are forces for good, exhibiting one (or all) practices outlined in Leslie Crutchfield and Heather McLeod Grant’s book Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High-Impact Nonprofits. The recipient of this award is an organization selected from a pool of nominations. They must be local to Appalachia, or work tirelessly on behalf of Appalachia.
