Website Design + Strategy
Designing an experience
I looped Lydia into this project to create a new site for a polar expedition company. I asked her to make something special out of some existing brand elements, and in bringing her flair for design and knowledge of how to create a digital user journey to the project, she fulfilled the brief and more. My client was thrilled, and I knew I'd found a special design partner.
She didn't just design a site. She designed an experience.
So... how's this work?
Good design is 99% invisible. And so am I.
I'll be working behind the scenes to bring your project to life. You stay in control - communicating with your client, sharing teasers and sneak peaks, and collecting quality feedback.
The process:
Reach out at least 3-weeks BEFORE you need to get the design process started to start discussing what a collaboration would look like. We've got some processes in place to ensure everything runs smoothly! It's also when we talk about how you share that you're bringing on a consultant.
This call is for us to discuss what the project will look like and to review if we'll be a good fit or not for this project.
If it's a go - I'll start reviewing your dossier for the project: goals, brand voice, strategy, dos and dont's, soundbites, and your visual direction. I'll then create a roadmap for our work together. This includes a timeline and deliverables. Think a chonky creative brief.
Strategy time! This is another call, or an email if you're busy. We'll suss out the strategy side of things, clarifications, and any brand visual ideas we could pursue.
This process shifts based off your project (web design has a different timeline than branding), but the bones of the process are the same:
Research. Inspiration. Sketch. Design. Refine.
You'll get a sneak peak or two to check-in on direction as we go and give feedback. This is NOT a situation where I run away and come back from my design lair a few weeks later and show you some abomination. This is a creative collaboration.
Your turn to really sit and review the creative elements and design presentation before sharing it with your client. Does an element not seem to fit? Let's fix it! Not feeling that typeface? We'll hunt for a new one together.
You'll have the design presentation already made and ready to share with your client. Throughout this process, you'll be sharing snippets to them to check that we're on the right track, but also to get them excited!
Show off their new brand and see if they have revisions.
Once revisions are all squared away - I'll hand the project off to you to wrap up! I am available to apply the brand to collateral and marketing support materials.
It's time to turn ideas into visuals. You've done the foundational work with your client and you're ready to move into the next phase.
Brand Development.

This process is a bit more detailed as the research and strategy phase can take several weeks depending on project needs. After the research phase is complete, expect the design process to take about 3-4 weeks and the development stage to take 2-3 weeks.

- Strategy and Goal Setting
- Research - exploring target audience and comparing analytics. Google Analytics and heatmapping allow us to see HOW a site is being used as well as who is using it. This information takes time to collect - but is invaluable when we start to design the user experience and customer journey.
- Style tile design following the Brand's style guide.
- Custom templates for design elements that repeat to build trust through consistency.
- Developer hand-off files. Everything you need to hand off the design to a developer to create.
- Website design as a pdf.
- Website styling guide as a pdf.
- All images and elements exported and web-ready.
- You'll get all of this in a presentation for you to share with your client so they can understand how the design should be implemented with their developer.
- Setup of hosting and connecting the domain name to hosting.
- Setup of WordPress dashboard.
- Setup of easy to maintain website :: empowered clients = happy clients. We build using the Beaver Builder suite.
- Development of unique core pages (home, about, services, etc.), archives, and templates (blog posts).
- Custom templates for design elements that repeat to build trust through consistency.
- Installation of heatmapping, Google Analytics, and any tracking pixels necessary.
- Installation of GDPR plugin - configuration depends on the client and their lawyer's advice.
